Asia’s smallest country by area and population, the Maldives is a chain of nearly one thousand two hundred coral islands perched on a vast underwater mountain range. Whiter-than-white sand, warm, luminous water and great seafood, all make the Maldives a destination for a bucket-list holiday.
International flights land at the Male Ibrahim Nasir International Airport on Hulhule Island, about 2km east of the Maldivian capital, Male. Transfers from the airport to Male or the other islands are made by speedboat or seaplane.
Travel by road is only possible on the islands of Male, Fuvahmulah and Hulhumale, and the causeways linking a few islands in Addu Atoll and Laamu. Taxis are available for hire in these places.
